Vietnamese Lantern Festival
Saturday 6 September | 3pm to 9pm
The Vietnamese Community is spoiling us again this year, bringing back their beautiful Lantern Festival to the Darwin Waterfront.
Peninsula Lawns will be decked out in magical paper lanterns, while performers on stage will showcase the best of traditional and contemporary music and dance. There won't be shortage of photo opportunities between the big moon display and a photobooth, and children will be able to enjoy different traditional games such as Ném Còn (Ball Throwing), Kéo Co (Tug of War), Thả Bóng (Ball Toss) and the hilarious Đập Niêu/Bóng (Pot/Ball Smashing) where blindfolded players take turns in trying to smash clay pots using a stick!
A variety of traditional Vietnamese food vendors will offer their delicious dishes and at 7.30pm you will be invited to gather around the Recreation Lagoon to make a wish and release your paper lantern.
Celebrations will end at 9pm with a spectacular fireworks display illuminating the night sky.
The event is proudly organised by the Australian Vietnamese Family Association Inc (AVFA), with the support of the Northern Territory Government and Darwin Waterfront Corporation.
