Jipijonton (Jabiru)

Janice Murray from Tinganuy country on Melville Island produced a series of Jabiru birds (sandpipers) that exhibit the charm and kid-friendly form that is ideal for sculptural play adjacent to the Wave Lagoon. The artist developed this series to include a bird with a horizontal posture so that children could sit on the body of the bird.

Additionally, the artist's paintings and pattern work were interpreted as coloured mosaic, inlayed into the wings of the Jabiru sculptures.
