Walking

The Darwin Waterfront Precinct is an easy five-minute stroll from Darwin city. 


Wander over Darwin’s oldest road (Hughes Avenue) onto a sky bridge through the shady canopy of raintrees. Artefacts, symbolic construction materials and interpretative signs along the walkway explain Darwin’s history. A glass-walled observation lift and ramps makes it accessible for everyone.

FREE WATERFRONT SHUTTLE BUS

A free 12-seater shuttle bus operates around the Darwin Waterfront Precinct every day between 11:30am and 2pm and then 4pm and 9pm.

Parking is available seven days a week. 

If you need parking for large coaches, buses or motor homes, please contact the Darwin Waterfront Corporation in advance so we can help with your arrangements.

To help you participate the Waterfront Precinct has the following facilities and services:

Mobi-Mat available for water access, rolled out daily between 10am - 6pm. Wheelchair available at Darwin Waterfront to use in swimming spaces.

Assistance dogs are permitted at Darwin Waterfront. See conditions.

Lift access available connecting Darwin City to Darwin Waterfront. Lift access in the Multi-storey car park.

Darwin Waterfront has ramps located around the venue to access all major areas

There is a free 21 seater shuttle bus to transport patrons around Darwin Waterfront and Stokes Hill Wharf

Darwin Waterfront has collaborated with the Multicultural Council of the NT to deliver tailored advice and resources regarding accessible and inclusive activities available for visitors at the Waterfront.


The Speak My Language program provides information about accessible and inclusive places and activities around Australia for people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Over 400 interviews can be found in more than 20 different languages and Darwin Waterfront is pleased to be featured. The podcast “Welcome to Darwin Waterfront" is available in Spanish, Mandarin, Hindi, and Indonesian languages to name a few.

  • What accessibility features are available at the Darwin Waterfront?

    We offer accessible parking spaces, ramps, elevators, restroom facilities, drinking water fountains, ramp access into our swimming attractions. Accessible pathways are provided throughout the precinct, and signage is in place to assist with navigation. Please refer to our Accessibility page for more detailed information.

  • Are there any mobility aids available for rent at the Darwin Waterfront?

    We do have a beach chair available for free use at the Wave Lagoon and Recreation Lagoon, please speak with the friendly lifeguards for assistance.

     We currently do not provide mobility aids for rent directly however, we recommend contacting local mobility aid rental services in Darwin such as https://www.limitlessaustralia.com.au/ as they may be able to assist you. Or feel free to reach out to the Tourism Top End Visitor Information Centre for further guidance.

  • Are service animals allowed at the Darwin Waterfront?

    Yes, service animals are welcome at the Darwin Waterfront. Please ensure that your service animal is appropriately restrained and under control at all times. Service animals are not permitted to enter any body of water (Wave Lagoon or Recreation Lagoon) or on the man-made beach. 

  • Are there any designated seating areas or rest areas for individuals with disabilities?

    Yes, we have designated seating areas throughout the precinct. These areas are designed to provide comfort and convenience for individuals with disabilities and those who require rest breaks.

  • Are there accessible dining options available?

    Yes, many of our restaurants and cafes offer accessible seating and facilities. We recommend contacting specific establishments in advance to ensure their accessibility meets your needs.

  • Is there a dedicated information centre at Darwin Waterfront for visitors with disabilities?

    There is no dedicated visitor information centre however the Darwin Waterfront Corporation office is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4pm to assist with any inquiries or speak with the friendly lifeguards or operators of the Wave Lagoon kiosk from 10am to 6pm daily who are available to assist all visitors, including those with disabilities. Our staff will be happy to provide information, guidance, and any additional support you may require during your visit.

  • Can I find accessible accommodation near the Darwin Waterfront?

    The Vibe Hotel & Adina Apartment Hotels have accommodation options at the Darwin Waterfront that offer accessible facilities. We recommend contacting the accommodations directly or using online booking platforms that provide accessibility filters.
