Running from 4:30pm to 8.30pm, the free Harmony Soiree returns this year in the beautiful setting of the Darwin Waterfront Parklands.

This much-loved free event organised in conjunction with the Office of Multicultural Affairs, showcases the great variety of cultures that make Darwin such a special place to live.

Join us in celebrating the unique richness and diversity of the multicultural community of the Northern Territory, and enjoy an afternoon of fun-filled activities, colourful dancing and musical performances, plus of course delicious food!

We are very excited to bring you a new wellness program this Dry season at the Waterfront!

We've partnered with some of the best providers in the Territory to add new classes to our existing fitness program, so there will be something every day either at the Wave Lagoon or on Peninsula Lawns.

Our Seniors will have THREE new weekly classes specifically tailored to their needs, and we're introducing pilates and yoga classes for busy working people who want to start the day in the best possible way and see the sunrise over the lagoon while they stay active and healthy.

Yoga in the Dry is back once again and will be on every Saturday with the Australian School of Meditation and Yoga .

Bring your Yoga Mat and start your weekend with Kalindi for a free hour of Hatha yoga suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners too. Class will also include breathwork and mantra meditation to help you wind down after your work week. Soak up the peaceful atmosphere of a morning at the Waterfront and stay for a coffee or full breakfast from one of our cafes .

Skip the queue – Waterfront dining goes digital

The Darwin Waterfront has introduced a new online platform that makes dining more flexible and convenient, allowing visitors to order from multiple venues in a single transaction.

Whether you’re craving seafood while your partner wants a burger, or the kids just want pizza, the system lets you order from a range of outlets, including favourites like the Oyster Bar, The Precinct Tavern, and Bella Bar, all at once. Simply place your order online and receive a text when each dish is ready to collect.

The platform can be accessed from anywhere, making it ideal for office workers on a lunch break or families enjoying the lawns and playground who don’t want to miss out on great food.

Darwin Waterfront Chief Executive Officer, Alastair Shields said the new system will give visitors even more ways to experience the best of Darwin Waterfront dining.

“We understand that sometimes parents want to relax on the lawns near the playground without giving up a delicious meal,” Mr Shields said.

“This platform makes it easier for everyone to order what they love—without having to juggle multiple transactions.”

Territory’s first dedicated Pickleball courts at the Waterfront

The Darwin Waterfront is dill-ighted to announce the opening of the Northern Territory’s very first dedicated Pickleball Courts.

Located in close proximity to Fort Hill Parklands and nestled beside Goyder Park, the new courts are free to use and add another exciting reason to visit the Waterfront.

Darwin Waterfront employee and keen Pickler Aaron Dunn said he couldn’t wait to pick up a paddle and rally with fellow fans.

“We’re thrilled to bring Pickleball to the Waterfront,” Mr Dunn said.

“It’s such a fun, social game and now locals and visitors alike have a beautiful spot to play, whether they’re seasoned picklers or trying it for the first time.”

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in Australia, combining elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis into a fast-paced, easy-to-learn game suitable for all ages.

Whether you're playing a friendly match, enjoying a day out with mates, or just curious about the sport everyone’s talking about, the Darwin Waterfront is the perfect place to dink, drive, and smash your way through the day.

The Pickleball courts do not require bookings.

Damoe-Ra Park Revitalisation

Artist Brief

The Darwin Waterfront Corporation, in collaboration with the Department of People, Sport and Culture, is revitalising Damoe-Ra Park. This project aims to restore the park as a peaceful, inclusive green sanctuary that honours the contributions of Northern Territory women, particularly Larrakia women, in a respectful and engaging way.

Originally dedicated in 1992 and named by Larrakia Elder Topsy Juwaning Secretary, "Damoe-Ra" means ‘eye’ or ‘spring’, referencing a sacred water source on nearby Lameroo Beach. The park holds cultural and historical significance, featuring mosaics and plaques installed to honour Territory women. Many of these have since deteriorated. The revitalisation seeks to restore this legacy and create a reflective and community-focused space.

Baby Splash is a fun and interactive water playtime session designed for babies and toddlers (6 months to 3 years), with parent/caregiver participation.

Activities are aimed at encouraging familiarisation with water through game play:

Gentle Water Play – Floating toys, cups, and small watering cans for babies to pour and splash.
Songs & Rhymes in Water – Singing classic nursery rhymes with gentle splashing or movement.
Parent-Baby Water Exercises – Swaying, bouncing, and assisted floating to help babies feel comfortable.
Kick & Splash – Encouraging babies to kick their legs in the water while supported by parents.
Tunnel Time – Floating hoops or soft water tunnels for parents to gently guide babies through.
Treasure Hunt – Parents can guide babies to reach for floating objects like soft balls or rubber ducks.
Paddle & Play – Babies can practice moving their hands in the water to push small floating toys.
Water Wheels & Pouring Fun – Using small water wheels or cups to pour and explore water movement.

CEL Australia will develop, own and operate the Darwin Convention Centre Hotel, following a competitive Expression of Interest (EOI) process.

The EOI, facilitated by CBRE Hotels, was the first step in the competitive market process to secure a private sector proponent to deliver a new hotel adjacent to the Darwin Convention Centre.

Today, Chief Minister Eva Lawler and CEL have signed a project development agreement, for delivery of the Hotel.

The hotel is a key part of the Masterplan to redevelop the Waterfront in one of Australia’s leading integrated lifestyle and tourism destinations.

The Darwin Convention Centre Hotel will offer 236 rooms, and provide new, upscale accommodation options for corporate and leisure visitors.

The hotel will be operated under CEL’s own brand, Momentus Hotels & Resorts, which is headquartered in Singapore, and will be the first Momentus hotel in Australia. In 2023 the Momentus Hotel in Singapore won the Travel Weekly Asia's Best Upscale Hotel in the Asia-Pacific Region.

CEL will progress detailed design over the coming months and engage with local businesses to get the project underway.

The hotel is expected to open at the end 2026.

Territory’s first Changing Places facility opens

The Northern Territory’s first Changing Places compliant amenities facility is now officially open at the Darwin Waterfront.

This state-of-the-art Changing Places facility provides an expansive layout to adequately accommodate people with mobility aids, a full size adjustable change table and hoist suitable for lifting up to 200kg in weight.

Now part of an Australia wide network with over 269 registered Changing Places facilities across the country, this facility supported by the Northern Territory Government is evidence of the Darwin Waterfront Corporation’s commitment to improving its offerings to ensure a more inclusive and accessible destination.

Accessible 24/7 with a universal Master Locksmiths Access Key, it provides those with high support needs opportunity to participate in all elements of community life without having to limit visits due to concerns about being able to access a suitable restroom.

The new facilities also add rinsing showers, chilled drinking fountains and storage lockers as well as female, male and ambulant restrooms for day users of the Recreation Lagoon and playground.

Darwin Waterfront Corporation Chair, Dr Richard Fejo said the facility would enable more visitors and the community to enjoy the Darwin Waterfront and its many restaurants, events and recreational activities.

“The Darwin Waterfront Corporation is prioritising the needs of our community to ensure the Waterfront is accessible and inclusive for everybody,” Dr Fejo said.

“Over the past 18 months, we have proudly delivered a number of initiatives which have also been recognised at the NT Disability and Inclusion Awards last year.

The Darwin Waterfront has been recognised for its commitment to tourism and accessibility, taking home multiple awards at two award ceremonies last week.

Last Saturday, the prestigious 2023 Brolga Awards celebrated the Territory’s tourism industry, with the Darwin Waterfront winning the Major Tourist Attraction category.

This achievement was followed by two awards at the NT Disability Inclusion Awards on Friday night, with Darwin Waterfront Corporation achieving the Inclusive Communities Award and the 2023 Overall Award for Excellence.

The awards recognised the Darwin Waterfront Corporation’s dedication to enhancing tourism in the Northern Territory and providing safe, accessible and unique options for visitors.

Darwin Waterfront Corporation Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Sam Burke said the awards represented the hard work of the entire team and businesses within the precinct. “The Darwin Waterfront would not be an award-winning destination without the people who work tirelessly to ensure visitors to our precinct have a positive and welcoming experience,” Mr Burke said.

Global investors set sights on the Darwin Convention Centre Hotel

Darwin’s hotels market continues to outperform the national average, with 2022 recording a 43.6% revenue per available room uplift compared to 2021.

This comes off the back of a competitive expressions of interest (EOI) process for the Darwin Convention Centre Hotel closing.

Very strong interest was received from domestic and international investors, including numerous global hotel operators.

Global operators who expressed interest in the opportunity included Marriott, Accor, TFE, IHG, Radisson and Event.

The Darwin Convention Centre Hotel is expected to offer between 200 to 250 rooms and provide new, upscale accommodation options for corporate and leisure visitors.

It will be located on Stokes Hill Road, directly adjacent to the Convention Centre, and offers spectacular views across Darwin Harbour and the Waterfront.

A total of 10 EOIs were lodged during the process, which opened in November and recently closed.

The EOI, facilitated by CBRE Hotels, was the first step in the competitive market process to secure a private sector proponent to build, own and operate a new hotel which will be integrated with the Darwin Convention Centre.

The Territory Government will now evaluate the EOIs with a view to shortlist proponents who will be invited to a request for proposals phase (RFP), where they will submit more detailed information on their proposals. At the conclusion of the RFP the Northern Territory Government will select a preferred proponent to undertake the project.

Darwin Waterfront achieves Accessible Tourism Accreditation

The Darwin Waterfront Corporation has taken significant steps to ensure that its waterfront precinct is a welcoming destination for all visitors, regardless of their physical limitations, disabilities, or age.

The corporation's commitment to improving accessible offerings has led to its recent achievement of Accessible Tourism Accreditation under the Quality Tourism Framework (QTF).

Key Accomplishments:

QTF Accessible Online-Assessment Program: The corporation has completed the requirements as per program to ensure compliance of accessibility standards. This program provides travellers with the information they need to make informed decisions that cater to their individual needs.
Mobi-Mat® Roll-Out: The Darwin Waterfront has taken proactive measures to enhance accessibility, including the automatic deployment of Mobi-Mat® for patrons at the saltwater Recreation Lagoon. This feature ensures that visitors can easily access the lagoon without needing to request assistance.
Priority Seating Area: At the Wave Lagoon, a 'priority seating area' has been established by the water’s edge. This area is equipped with shade and offers direct access to the water via complementary use of a wheelchair provided. Additionally, Companion Cards are accepted for support carers, exempting them from admission fees.
Website Enhancements: The corporation has made improvements to its website to promote accessible offerings. Widget features have been introduced to facilitate easier navigation, and a dedicated Accessible Destination Guide and map are available online at www.waterfront.nt.gov.au .
Accessibility Guides for Restaurants and Cafes: Collaborating with Hospitality NT and Flare Access, the corporation is currently supporting the development of venue-specific accessibility guides for all restaurants and cafes at the Waterfront. These guides will soon be publicly available, enhancing the dining experience for all visitors.
Changing Places Compliant Public Toilet: Construction is underway for the Northern Territory's first-ever Changing Places compliant public toilet facility in the parklands. Expected to be completed by December 2023, this facility will feature an adult-sized change table, hoist, and more circulation space catering to individuals with high support needs.
Sensory-Focused Family Events: The corporation plans to incorporate more sensory-focused free family events and activities to create a more inclusive community. This is following the recent success of the free Rainbow Monkey’s Sensory Days offered during the mid-year school holiday program.

First-ever Changing Places facility for Darwin Waterfront

Construction of the Northern Territory’s first-ever fully accessible Changing Places facility is about to get underway at the Waterfront.

Changing Places facilities allow people with high support needs to participate in all elements of community life, without having to limit their time out and about due to concerns of not being able to access a suitable facility.
This includes a height-adjustable adult-sized change table; a constant-charging ceiling track hoist system; a centrally-located peninsula toilet; additional circulation space more than standard accessible toilets; an automatic door with a clear opening of 950mm at a minimum; and a privacy screen.
Darwin Waterfront Corporation Chair Richard Fejo said the Darwin Waterfront is committed to inclusivity and ensuring that the precinct is accessible to all members of the community.
“By providing these facilities, Darwin Waterfront aims to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, valued, and able to participate in the vibrant activities and events that the precinct has to offer,” Dr Fejo said.
The new fully accessible public amenities building will be located at the heart of the Recreation Lagoon parklands and is being designed and constructed by renowned local company, Aspire Design & Construct.
The collaboration is also supported by the Northern Territory Government to create a state-of-the-art facility that meets the needs of individuals with disabilities and offers an inclusive experience for all visitors.
Northern Territory Minister for Disabilities, Ngaree Ah Kit is thrilled that the popular and busy Darwin Waterfront Precinct will be the location of the Northern Territory’s first fully compliant Changing Places facility.
She said the amenities building will feature a range of facilities to enhance accessibility and convenience.
“Changing Places compliant amenities, which provide ample space, specialised equipment, and hoisting and changing facilities, have the ability to change the lives of people with complex disabilities and their caregivers,” Minister Ah Kit said.
Additionally, the building will offer male, female, and ambulant toilets to cater to diverse needs. Rinsing showers, chilled drinking fountains, and storage lockers will also be available, ensuring that all visitors have access to the necessary amenities for their comfort and convenience.
Construction is set to commence next week, with the facility to be completed and fully operational by the end of 2023. The Darwin Waterfront Corporation is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance throughout the construction process and aesthetics are in keeping with the existing precinct infrastructure.

Ferris wheel now more accessible

The Ferris Wheel at Stokes Hill Wharf is back for another Dry season with the addition of a new wheelchair-accessible gondola.

More than 50,000 locals and tourists were able to experience this fantastic attraction last season and the new custom gondola means even more people will be able to enjoy the ride and view this year.

Ensuring that people with disability are included and can engage, participate and contribute to community life is a key outcome of the Northern Territory’s Disability Strategy.

Darwin Convention Centre Hotel starts Waterfront transformation

A new hotel, which will be integrated with the Darwin Convention Centre, will be built at the Darwin Waterfront.

The Northern Territory Government will be calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from the private sector to develop the Darwin Convention Centre Hotel, to join the thriving tourism, residential and hospitality offerings at the Darwin Waterfront.

Investors and developers will be able to submit Expressions of Interest in the coming weeks.

The NT Government and Darwin Waterfront Corporation have appointed commercial real estate and investor specialists, CBRE Hotels, to run the international campaign to attract an experienced investor, developer and operator for the project.

CBRE Hotels has already commenced market sounding for the opportunity as a precursor to the EOI process.

The Darwin Convention Centre Hotel will provide new, upscale accommodation options for corporate and leisure visitors, activate the Darwin Waterfront, and drive growth in high-yield corporate and convention markets.

The Convention Centre Hotel development site is on Stokes Hill Road directly adjacent to the Convention Centre and offers spectacular views across Darwin Harbour and Waterfront.

The hotel is expected to offer between 200 – 250 rooms.

The Darwin Convention Centre Hotel is part of the first stage in the redesigned Darwin Waterfront Masterplan also publicly released today, which will redevelop the Waterfront into one of Australia’s leading integrated tourism and lifestyle destinations through a world-class surf park, iconic snorkelling lagoon, new temperature controlled pools and countless additional food and beverage offerings. The EOI follows a Registration of Interest (ROI) process for a luxury hotel, which identified initial market interest in developing new accommodation at the Waterfront. It also identified that a Convention Centre Hotel has a stronger commercial case than a luxury hotel, with the Convention Centre Hotel to benefit from continued corporate business and events.

The Territory’s economic position is bouncing back from COVID-19 with investors actively looking for projects to undertake.
