Recreation Lagoon reopens to swimmers

The Darwin Waterfront Recreation Lagoon and beach area has reopened for swimming today, 20 February 2018.

The Darwin Waterfront Corporation received results today which confirm the Recreation Lagoon’s improved water quality.

The Corporation will continue to monitor the lagoon regularly in accordance with the National Health and Medical Research Council Standards and Department of Health Guidelines.

The Corporation takes the issue of water quality very seriously, and has in place various management strategies to ensure the water quality is maintained at a high standard.

The Recreation Lagoon flushing system continuously pumps fresh sea water resulting in the water being turned over approximately every seven days which has helped to improve water quality quickly.
