Wreck of the Warrego

Remnants of the Warrego, a decommissioned navy vessel employed in Darwin as a coal-hulk, are buried under the former Stokes Hill Power Station site.

The Warrego was washed ashore during a cyclone in 1919. It has been assessed by the Heritage Advisory Council as not meeting the heritage assessment criteria established under the Heritage Conservation Act. Consideration will be given to acknowledging the Warrego through appropriate interpretive materials in the area where the wreck was buried.
