The Darwin Waterfront Corporation is reminding people about the safer options for swimming in the top end after a seven-year old girl was stung at a popular beach.

Pat Coleman, CEO Darwin Waterfront Corporation said the Northern Territory Government has provided some great water facilities at the Darwin Waterfront Precinct.

“This new playground is open seven days a week including public holidays.

The very popular Wave Lagoon offers safe year-round swimming for a small charge.

And there’s the saltwater Recreation Lagoon which is free to use, closed off from the sea, has a man-made beach and is dragged regularly to check for marine stingers.

Surf Life Saving NT patrols the waters between 9am – 6pm daily.

“We must not be complacent about box jellyfish. Getting stung would not be a nice experience and the danger is stings can be fatal,” said Mr Coleman.
